Vibes, Morale & Mistakes

In my first article, I thought I’d take a minute to talk about the importance of great vibes.

Having a good time is a compulsory component of any great recording. You need tons of talent, skill, and ambition to make it in this or any business, but in our line of work vibe is just as important.

This blog will be dedicated mostly to technical and creative tips, but I wanted to make sure to preface that with the notion that your spiritual and creative energies are linked.  I am consistently reminded of this when comping vocals…many times the takes that are a little pitchy are the ones that evoke the most emotion and convey the song with conviction, while the takes that are pitch perfect were sung “safe” and lack the obvious vibe of the first so-called pitchy takes.  Keep your ears open for the vibe just as much as for the pitch, sound, rhythm etc…  All hit records contain “brilliant mistakes”.
